SPYWARE
You've heard about SPYWARE, and you have probably been
attacked by it as well, but just what is it?
SPYWARE is software created to intentionally spy on
everything you do on your PC. This includes which sites you visit
on the internet, which sites you frequent, and on some of the nastier
SPYWARE programs, you may even have your keystrokes being recorded
to steal passwords and account numbers.
In a nutshell, SPYWARE is nasty stuff.
The worst part about SPYWARE is that the writers of
SPYWARE programs write them so that they can install themselves onto
your PC without you authorizing them to be there. Most times, SPYWARE
gets installed without you even realizing that anything has happened.
Constructure Technologies has been dealing with SPYWARE
on a business and personal level since these programs started appearing.
We are experts at removing spyware, and can introduce many new business
stragegies to help prevent SPYWARE from infiltrating your organization.
Some ways that you can limit
your exposure to SPYWARE are:
- When you see popups asking if new software can be
installed, ALWAYS say NO. If you click YES to any of these popups,
make sure that you trust the company that is installing it. If you
click on the MORE DETAILS button, you will get more information about
the company that is trying to install software of your PC. If you've
never heard of that company, SAY NO. Or, make it a rule to ALWAYS
say no.
- Try to avoid questionable sites, with questionable
sponsors. These include: Pornography Sites, Program Crack sites, Low-Budget
Travel Sites, and Pirate Sites. If you're visiting these types of
sites, make sure that you have an Anti-Virus program running, and
scan for spyware regularly.
- Update Microsoft Windows monthly. Microsoft has made
it very easy for anyone with an internet connection to update their
software. Simply clicking on Start --> Windows Update, and scanning
for updates will drastically reduce your susceptibility to Spyware,
as well as computer Virii.
